Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity
Is your child…
Easily distracted?
Disorganized?
Interrupt others?
Often talk excessively?
Can’t wait their turn?
Have poor self-control?
If you are answering “yes” to most of these questions, your child may have an attention-deficit disorder (ADHD). Not all children who are hyperactive, impulsive, or inattentive have ADHD, but if it is causing significant difficulties in at least two areas (such as home and school), began before the age of 7, and has been a problem for at least 6 months, you should consider having your child evaluated for ADHD.
As many as one-third to one-half of all children who have ADHD also develop Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and many also have Learning Disabilities, so its important to get help as soon as possible.
Raising a child with ADHD can be incredibly challenging and oftentimes overwhelming, but don’t be too hard on yourself, and remember: your child didn’t choose to be this way. Call us now at 925-777-9540 or e-mail at psychinstitute@comcast.net for more information and an appointment.
